Dr. Karla Castillo grew up in Laredo, TX, where her love and passion for animals began at a young age and developed further while working as a technician at her local veterinary clinic.
She attended Texas A&M International University for her undergraduate education and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University. She is proud to be part of the Class of 2022 Aggie Veterinarians - whoop! While she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, her special interests include emergency medicine, internal medicine, and wound management.
Her main goals as a veterinarian are to provide an inclusive environment for her clients while addressing their concerns and offering optimal care to her patients. Dr. Castillo has a Chihuahua named Phoebe and a terrier mix named Reni here in town. Back home in Laredo, she has several other pets, including an iguana named Esmeralda, a parrot named Lola, and a tortoise named Merlin.
In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, yoga, and gardening. Dr.Castillo is bilingual in English and Spanish. She is also currently learning American Sign Language. Dr. Castillo is excited to join the team at Deerfield Animal Hospital and eager to meet her new clients and their family pets!
